Team Penske Lacks Speed in Qualifying, Says They Have Great Race Pace Still Though

INDIANAPOLIS – Luckily for the entire Team Penske group, the Indianapolis 500 has shown everyone lately that starting position doesn’t matter anymore. The cars get such a big tow on the straights, that if you have a good handling car, you can easily move up. Penske is hoping that rings true again this year. For some reason, the Penske cars lacked speed all week at Indy. I think we all thought though that maybe they were holding something back. After all, Penske is always a pole contender at Indy. They’ve won…

Tons of Star Power Coming From Midback for 101st Running of the Indianapolis 500

INDIANAPOLIS – Once upon a time, starting position mattered for the Indianapolis 500. But, since the DW12 was introduced for the 2012 race, starting position has no merit on success for the ‘500. Take this stat for what it’s worth, the last five winners of the Indy 500, all since 2012, have come from a starting spot outside the top 10. Dario Franchitti won from the 16th starting position in 2012. Tony Kanaan started 12th in 2013. Ryan Hunter-Reay started 19th in 2014. Juan Pablo Montoya started 15th in 2015, but…

Team Penske Drivers Say They’d Tip Toe Final Few Laps If Battling for the Win

INDIANAPOLIS – Team Penske has won a Verizon IndyCar Series record 190 races during the course of their storied career. 16 of those 190 wins though have come in the prestigious Indianapolis 500, another record. With them winning the last three straight races on the IndyCar season, there’s a good chance  that at least a few of the Penske drivers will be battling for the win in next Sunday’s 101st Running of the Indianapolis 500 (11 a.m. ET/ABC/INDYCAR Radio Network). If that’s the case, just as it was in 2015, what…

Penske Sustains Success by Having the Best Drivers, No “Pay For a Ride” Talent

INDIANAPOLIS – Unfortunately, this era of motorsports rewards drivers with deeper pockets than those without. It doesn’t matter how talented you are, if you don’t have a check that can clear the bank account of most owners in any series around the world, you likely won’t be racing. Too many talented drivers see seasons come and go while they’re on the sidelines because they don’t have the funding necessary to compete. Most teams, even those within the Verizon IndyCar Series, see drivers race for them that are bringing the money to…

Can Penske Win 18th Indy 500 Pole This Weekend? Will Power Only Shot Left

INDIANAPOLIS – Honda appears to have the aerokit to beat for the pole for this year’s 101st Running of the Indianapolis 500 (11 a.m. ET/ABC/INDYCAR Radio Network). They dominated the front of the starting lineup a year ago, and a week of practice this year, Honda drivers have been stellar. Before Fast Friday, Chevy had just three drivers in the top 12 of the speed charts. Penske themselves were 5-13-16-17-25. Then, on Fast Friday itself, Penske was 5-13-16-23-24. On the pivotal no tow list, they were 7-13-20-21-22.

Then, the Team Penske driver will win the actual race itself too. See, he and his teammate Will Power have alternated poles every race this season. In the season opener at St. Pete, Power won the Verizon P1 Pole Award. In the second race at Long Beach, it was Castroneves’ turn. Then, in the third race at Barber, it was Power’s turn…

Josef Newgarden Uninjured After Practice Crash on Thursday in Indianapolis 500 Practice

INDIANAPOLIS – On Monday, Jack Harvey was the first Verizon IndyCar Series driver to find the wall at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, as his No. 50 Honda made contact with the outside SAFER barrier in Turn 2. Luckily, the contact wasn’t real hard, as a mechanical failure caused his car not to turn and go straight into the wall. He would be okay.
