Sunday’s GEICO 500 Was a Vastly Different Talladega Race

TALLADEGA, Ala – Everyone expected Sunday’s GEICO 500 at the Talladega Superspeedway to be a wild one. After all, whenever the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series visits the high banked 2.66-mile Alabama race track, wild doesn’t even begin to describe the action that the track produces. Sunday’s race though, well it was far from wild. It lacked that Talladega punch. The first several laps were run single file. While the view from the grandstands, media center or at home seemed like the drivers were just riding around, the drivers in the…

Despite Elliott Frustrated With 3rd Place Finish and Byron/Johnson Causing Melee, Still a Strong Day For Hendrick Cars in Dega

TALLADEGA, Ala – Once upon a time, the Hendrick Motorsports cars were the top dogs in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series on restrictor plate tracks. Now, they’re just happy to do what they did, three cars finishing in the top 12. Some may look at the Lap 165 crash as what was a bad day for the four car organization, but I see even more positives leaving the Talladega Superspeedway this weekend.

Kurt Busch Leads A Strong Day Out of Stewart-Haas Racing Camp at Talladega

TALLADEGA, Ala – Stewart-Haas Racing nearly crossed off another Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series track off their list of winless venues on Sunday. There are only two tracks on the schedule that SHR hasn’t won a race at. One if Kentucky Speedway. The other? The site of Sunday’s Geico 500, the Talladega Superspeedway. They were actually only 0.127-seconds away from crossing the 2.66-mile Alabama race track off the list though. Kurt Busch led a strong day out of the SHR foursome on Sunday afternoon as he brought his No. 41 Ford…

Fords Strong As Logano Ends Winless Streak In Victory In Sunday’s Geico 500

TALLADEGA, Ala – We shouldn’t be shocked that the Ford drivers combined to lead 126 of the 188 laps in Sunday’s Geico 500. After all, Fords were dominant in the season opening race at the Daytona International Speedway, the other restrictor plate track on the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series schedule. We also shouldn’t be shocked by the winner in Sunday’s race at the Talladega Superspeedway either. Joey Logano led a race-high 70 of those 188 laps en route to his third victory at the high banked 2.66-mile Alabama track…

In Wake Of McMurray’s Wreck, NASCAR Makes Changes To Restrictor Plate

TALLADEGA, Ala – After two Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series practice sessions on Friday at the Talladega Superspeedway, NASCAR has decided that enough is enough. NASCAR officials have reduced the size of the restrictor plates now this weekend from 7/8 of an inch to 55/64th of an inch. That’s in wake of two events which lead to a much needed change. First off, practice speeds soared well over 200 mph with Ty Dillon going 202.959 mph in the first practice and Jamie McMurray at 203.959 mph in final practice. When you…

Bayne Speaks To The Media For 1st Time Since Kenseth Announcement

On Wednesday, the news was confirmed that Trevor Bayne would be out of a full time ride in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series for the remainder of the 2018 season. Matt Kenseth would be back with Roush/Fenway Racing and the organization would pair him with Bayne in the No. 6 Ford. While Bayne certainly isn’t being let go by RFR as a whole, he’s just not going to be making starts for every race now. On Friday, Bayne spoke publicly for the first time since that announcement. See, on…

McMurray Takes A Wild Race In Practice Crash at Talladega, Fastest Cars On Friday All Go To Backup Cars For Sunday’s Race

TALLADEGA, Ala – We didn’t see the “big one” yet, but rather the “wild one” already at the Talladega Superspeedway. The difference is, this one was in Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series practice on Friday afternoon. The crash, well it took out the fastest cars of the day too. Jamie McMurray, Ryan Newman, Daniel Suarez and Ty Dillon had four of the top five speeds on Friday, as each were involved in a crash on the backstretch of the 2.66-mile Alabama Superspeedway in final practice, which sent McMurray’s No. 1 Chevrolet…

5 Favorites For Saturday’s Sparks Energy 300 (3 p.m. ET/FOX/MRN/SiriusXM NASCAR Radio)

Picking a top five for a restrictor plate race is like winning the lottery. So, take this weekend’s pick with a bit of a grain of salt. These are just five drivers statistically I feel could run well in Saturday’s Sparks Energy 300 (3 p.m. ET/FOX/MRN/SiriusXM NASCAR Radio). But, there’s no guarantee of that. Elliott Sadler He’s got to be the one to beat right? Sadler may not have won in 47 races, but this could be the race that sees that winless streak come to an end. The JR…
