Penske Makes A Statement In Vegas

Brad Keselowski entered Sunday’s opening race of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series playoffs on the heels of two straight victories. But, despite winning each of the last two races, most didn’t think that he nor his Team Penske organization had the amount of speed that it was going to take to seriously compete for this year’s championship. Well, after Sunday’s South Point 400 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, they made a statement.

Big 3 Continue To Struggle, But Truex Gets Back On Track

We’ve seen four straight Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series races now that the “Big 3” failed to win a race. In fact, they’re just 1 for the last 6. Before that, they had won four of the last five and 16 of the first 19. I wrote leading into Sunday’s South Point 400 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway that we’re they slowing down or was everyone else catching up. Well, on Sunday, some of the top guys that we’re catching up crashed.

Hendrick Looked Strong Until Mistakes In Final Stage In Vegas

The speed that the entire Hendrick Motorsports camp was missing throughout the 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series regular season all the sudden showed up in the opening race of the playoffs on Sunday at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The only problem was, the finishes didn’t back up the speed. The first two stages went great for all four HMS drivers. Alex Bowman finished third and ninth respectively in his No. 88 Chevrolet in the opening two stages. Jimmie Johnson was 17th and fourth while Chase Elliott was fifth…

Joe Gibbs Racing Struggles In Sunday’s South Point 400

Joe Gibbs Racing should have been among the favorites for Sunday’s South Point 400 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. They had three of the top four starters on the 1.5-mile track and were arguably the top team to beat. Unfortunately, all four of their drivers struggled.

Over Half Of The Playoff Field With Problems On Sunday

We literally witnessed over half of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series playoff field having problems during Sunday’s South Point 400 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. 12 of the 16 drivers occurred at least one issue causing a huge shakeup in the standings heading to Richmond next weekend. It all started when Kyle Larson cut a right front tire on Lap 70. He was running third at the time but would have to pit for damage. While he’d rebound, it was the start of a troubling day for the…

Harvick Slams Goodyear Tires After He And Jones Crash On Lap 147

Good think Kevin Harvick had all of those playoff points accumulated during the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series regular season, because in the first race of the playoffs, his day ended with his second to worst finish of the year. Harvick, cut a tire on Lap 147 of Sunday’s South Point 400 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and got into the wall in Turn 2. Unfortunately, Erik Jones didn’t have enough time to slow down and his No. 20 Toyota slammed into the back of Harvick’s No. 4 Ford.…

Bowyer, Truex, Elliott Quick On Long Run Speed, Hamlin Left Struggling

If you look at the speed charts, you’ll see that Clint Bowyer, Martin Truex Jr. and Chase Elliott maybe don’t have a ton of speed. On single lap runs, none of the three were inside of the top five of single lap runs in Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series action around the 1.5-mile Las Vegas Motor Speedway. That may have their fans worried about their chances for Sunday’s South Point 400 (3 p.m. ET/NBCSN/PRN/SiriusXM NASCAR Radio).

Saturday’s Cup Series Practice Report, Can Newman Steal A Win

Saturday’s final two Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series practice sessions gave us little information on who will be good for Sunday’s South Point 400 (3 p.m. ET/NBCSN/PRN/SiriusXM NASCAR Radio). In the first session, the speed charts were dominated by a lot of non playoff drivers. Six drivers in the top 10 are not playoff eligible. Ryan Newman topped the speed charts in his No. 31 Chevrolet with a speed of 183.892 mph. Newman’s speed is great for Richard Childress Racing as they do have a driver in Austin Dillon that’s…

Grant Enfinger Wins Friday Night’s Truck Series Race In Vegas, Main Takeaways From The Race

Grant Enfinger’s call to not take tires on the Lap 82 caution paid off in a big way on Friday night. Enfinger, the leader at the time, stayed out on old tires which hurt his short run speed on the ensuing restart. He’d fall back but luck out for some late race caution. He’d come down later than everyone else to get new Goodyear Tires and due to more cautions and a red flag period, he’d have fresher rubber to pass everyone back to win his second career NASCAR Camping…
