Despite New Car, INDYCAR Race at Phoenix Still Needs Some Work

AVONDALE, AZ – Anticipation was high when the Verizon IndyCar Series announced that they’d be returning to the ISM Raceway in Phoenix for the 2016 season. There was a large buzz surrounding the event in the return for the first time in over a decade. But, three years into the return, the product still remains a work in progress. The first two years we saw zero on track passes for the lead. With 500 laps of racing, there were six total lead changes. The race was a high speed parade.

AVONDALE, AZ – The second race of the Verizon IndyCar Series season is upon us. If Saturday night’s Desert Diamond West Valley Casino Phoenix Grand Prix (9 p.m. ET/NBCSN/INDYCAR Radio Network) is anything like we saw at St. Pete, or even through all the practices and qualifying thus far, it could be very unpredictable. Honda Drivers Leading The Way This Weekend, But Penske Cars Right There Too

AVONDALE, AZ – It’s no secret, the season opening Verizon IndyCar Series race on the streets of St. Pete were less than stellar for Team Penske. The storied organization had dominated on the 1.8-mile street course. Heading into this year’s race, they had won a record setting eight times. Will Power had also won poles in seven of the last eight years. Instead, they never really were a huge factor. They’d start 2-11-13 and finish 7-10-13. They’d lead zero laps in the process. But, despite such a ho-hum start to the…

Despite Starting 6th, Wickens More Anxious For Phoenix Race Than St. Pete

AVONDALE, AZ – Verizon IndyCar Series rookie Robert Wickens has never driven on an oval before. See, Wickens had previous road racing experience before. St. Pete, while a new race in a new series on a track he’s never seen before had enough anxiety going through his Canadian mind, Phoenix in fact had…
