Ho-Hum Duels On Thursday Night

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla – After a ho-hum Clash at Daytona last Sunday, everyone wondered what would happen with the Duels and Daytona 500. Well, we all thought the Duels would be lacking in adrenaline, not just because of this new restrictor plate package, which oh by the way, I really do like, but also because there were 40 drivers in the field going for 40 spots. No one was going home. With bad handling cars and no one going home, why risk wrecking your Daytona 500 car? With qualifying and the…

Bubba Wallace With 3rd Place Duel Finish on Thursday Night

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla – There’s no doubt, there’s no closer friends in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series garage than Ryan Blaney and Darrell Wallace Jr. Those two have grown so close to one another during their young racing careers and have been fun to watch with their off the track antics. Just today even, the duo were joking with one another during a NASCAR Media Availability. They joked about racing with one another in the first duel. Well, their jokes came true actually, as Wallace pushed friend Blaney to the…

Bowman Keeps It Conservative In 1st Duel, Other 2 Teammates Not as Lucky

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla – For the last four years now, Hendrick Motorsports has won at least one Can Am Duel at the Daytona International Speedway during Speedweeks. They swept the twin 60 lap races in 2015, then saw Dale Earnhardt Jr. win the first duel in 2016. Last year, Chase Elliott won the first duel himself. This year, it was Elliott again, this time winning the second duel. That’s basically a three race win streak though in the opening duel in the last three years right? For the 2018 edition, they…

Blaney/Elliott Wins Thursday Night’s Can-Am Duels

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla – Everyone wondered what to expect out of Thursday night’s Can Am Duels in Daytona. After last Sunday’s ho-hum Clash, most were worried that Thursday night’s twin races on the high banked Daytona International Speedway would be even worse. If passing was that hard, why would anyone make any extra effort to do so with everyone making the show for Sunday’s 60th annual Daytona 500 (2:30 p.m. ET/FOX/MRN/SiriusXM NASCAR Radio)? While the 2018 Duels weren’t anything like they could have been, they also weren’t entirely boring either.

What To Expect Out Of The Duels, Daytona 500

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla – Depending on who you talk to, the Can Am Duels at Daytona on Thursday night and the 60th annual Daytona 500 on Sunday could be very compelling and built with excitement. But, they could also be very boring and following the leader parade like action. The reason? The new restrictor plate rules. There’s no ride height, so teams are trying out different set up packages. The only sample size we can base this off of at the moment, is how the Clash was raced last Sunday. The…

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla – Sunday was all about qualifying for the front row for next Sunday’s 60th annual Daytona 500 (2:30 p.m. ET/FOX/MRN/SiriusXM NASCAR Radio). But, for those that didn’t make the front row and guarantee those two starting spots when the checkered flag on the two round qualifying format, the other 38 drivers saw their starting spot for Thursday night’s Can Am Duels (7 p.m. ET/FS1/MRN/SiriusXM NASCAR Radio). The odd numbered qualifiers will race in the first duel, while the even numbered qualifiers will run in the second duel.

It showed that both organizations once again will be the ones to beat for Sunday’s 59th annual Daytona 500 (1 p.m. ET/FOX/MRN). But, if you look a little deeper, you would see that Hendrick and JGR’s victories on Thursday…
