ABC Supply 500 Back In 2018, INDYCAR And Pocono To Celebrate 25th Year Together

Pocono Raceway will host the 2018 ABC Supply 500 race weekend from August 18-19. It will mark the 25th INDYCAR race held ‘The Tricky Triangle’ and the sixth-consecutive year in which the Verizon IndyCar Series has competed there since 2013. The 2017 ABC Supply 500 saw 42 lead changes and 590 on-track passes, 524 of which were for position. The race was won by Team Penske’s Will Power, who became the first driver to win back-to-back INDYCAR races at Pocono Raceway.

Main Takeaways, Notes From Sunday’s ABC Supply 500

Long Pond, PA – The ABC Supply 500 at the Pocono Raceway was one of the most thrilling, exhilarating Verizon IndyCar Series races of the season. A track record 42 lead changes with just three cautions was basically everything you need to know. A ton of passing, 500+ passes throughout the field all day, with three yellows, says it was an edge of your seat racing, but safe. With that being said, here are the my main takeaways.

Rossi and Kanaan Shine, But Had a Good Reason Why Neither Won on Sunday at Pocono

Long Pond, PA – For much of Sunday’s ABC Supply 500, it appeared that Tony Kanaan and Alexander Rossi were going to be two of the main contenders to beat in this weekend’s Verizon IndyCar Series race at the Pocono Raceway. From the drop of the green flag, the two immediately were contenders. Kanaan, immediately shot to the lead and led the first 11 laps. He started fourth. Just a few laps later, Rossi came from his sixth starting spot to stalking Kanaan for the top spot. On Lap 12, Rossi…

After Suffering 138gs In a Qualifying Crash on Saturday, Hunter-Reay Finishes 8th on Sunday

Long Pond, PA – When Ryan Hunter-Reay had assistance to the Safety Vehicle after a wicked crash in qualifying on Saturday afternoon to set the field for today’s ABC Supply 500 at the Pocono Raceway, most of us thought then that his status for the Verizon IndyCar Series race would be in doubt. I mean he couldn’t even put much pressure on his legs, how could he drive a race car at speeds in excess of 215 mph just 24 hours later? Hunter-Reay was transported to a local hospital where he…

Team Penske On a Roll, 4 Straight Wins On the Season

Long Pond, PA – I wrote earlier this week how we can’t count out Will Power and his Team Penske teammates this weekend at the Pocono Raceway. Yes, Hondas were going to be the ones to beat, after all, they have shown to have the most power on superspeedways. But, Power was the defending race winner at Pocono and also led 180 laps en route to the win in the last superspeedway race this season back in June at Texas. So, we could never count them out in Sunday’s ABC Supply…

Will Power Comes From a Lap Down to Win ABC Supply 500 at Pocono

Long Pond, PA – What a great strategy day for Will Power on Sunday at the Pocono Raceway. Power, initially had to pit on Lap 61 for damage on his front wing. He also had an issue with his right rear tire. He would lose a lap as a result of that stop. But, two yellows in a span of nine laps helped him get his lap back and stay there. That helped aid in his pit stop on Lap 61 as he now had the strategy to win.

Sato May Have Earned ABC Supply 500 Pole, But Andretti Cars Missed The Setup

Long Pond, PA – I know it sounds like weird, but despite Takuma Sato earning the pole for Sunday’s ABC Supply 500 (2 p.m. ET/NBCSN/INDYCAR Radio Network) the Andretti Autosport group flat missed the setup for Saturday’s qualifying round. Sato, nearly crashed twice in Turn 1, but he held on to earn the top spot at the Pocono Raceway. Even Alexander Rossi qualified his No. 98 Honda sixth. But, both of them had their hands full.

Sato Shows Massive Guts, Earns ABC Supply 500 (2 p.m. ET/NBCSN/INDYCAR Radio Network) Pole

Long Pond, PA – Takuma Sato showed he has some massive guts on Saturday afternoon at the Pocono Raceway. He sat on pit road for minutes, all by himself collecting his thoughts. Three cars before he was set to go, Sato watched his Andretti Autosport teammate of Marco Andretti hold onto dear life as his No. 27 Honda skated around the 2.5-mile track. They missed the setup and he did all he could do to hold on. That came after Alexander Rossi had lost some speed too due to the same…

Andretti Autosport, Chip Ganassi Racing Thriving So Far This Weekend at Pocono

Long Pond, PA – Back at Indy in May, Honda was once again the prevalent manufacturer on the 2.5-mile superspeedway. They’d combine to lead 181 of the 200 laps for the May 28 Indianapolis 500. A year prior to that, they led 129 more circuits. But, at Texas in June, the second superspeedway of the year, Chevrolet flipped the script and led 186 of the 248 laps. In 2016, they led just 11 laps in that race.

Don’t Sleep on Team Penske for Sunday’s ABC Supply 500 (2 p.m. ET/NBCSN/INDYCAR Radio Network)

Long Pond, PA – Yes, the Honda camp is by far the manufacturer to beat for Sunday’s ABC Supply 500 (2 p.m. ET/NBCSN/INDYCAR Radio Network). After all, why would they not be? They’ve dominated on superspeedways the last two seasons and were strong in practice and qualifying on Saturday from the Pocono Raceway. But, I still wouldn’t sleep on Team Penske despite that. They didn’t have the best of months at Indy for Indy 500 action, qualifying ninth (Will Power) 18th (Juan Pablo Montoya) 19th (Helio Castroneves) 22nd (Josef Newgarden) and…
