NASCAR: Kevin Harvick calls Ty Dillon a spoon-fed “rich kid” after Martinsville wreck

Kevin Harvick Martinsville madSaturday’s truck series race at Martinsville was one of the most entertaining in years, in no small part because of a feud that developed between fellow RCR drivers Kevin Harvick and Ty Dillon (grandson of team owner Richard Childress).

Harvick was actually driving for a different team in the race, and with about 12 laps to go he and Dillon took each other out while fighting for second place.

Replays showed that Dillon had the inside position on Harvick’s No. 14 truck, but that didn’t stop Harvick from passing along the blame for the wreck.

After Harvick climbed from his wrecked car, he had an entertaining take on what happened.

Reporter: “What happened?”

Harvick: “The 3 (Dillon) just dumped me. That’s exactly the reason I’m leaving RCR, because you’ve got those kids coming up and they’ve got no respect for what they do in this sport and they’ve had everything fed to them with a spoon.

“I cut him slack all day, and you know, he just dive bombs me in there and dumps me… It’s a shame you’ve gotta get taken out by some rich kid like that.”

Did Harvick forget he’s still driving four more races for RCR on the Sprint Cup side and is in the middle of a championship fight?

Did he forget that Dillon for his part is trying to defend his truck series championship from a year ago?

It would serve him right if Richard Childress kicks him out of the 29 car for the rest of the season and hands the keys to one of the Dillon brothers for the rest of 2013.

Serve him right??? I don’t know what race you were watching. Dillon dumped him, plain and simple. Secondly, Why would you take him out of his car for telling the truth? Those Dillon kids have had everything handed to them. I’m not a huge Harvick fan, but I respect his candor in this case.

All I’m saying is that the wreck was Harvick’s fault. Of course the Dillon brothers have had a ton of advantages growing up as Richard Childress’s grandsons. So what? They know how to win races and championships. Harvick was cutting Dillon off and there was absolutely nothing Ty could do to prevent the wreck, especially with Crafton pushing him from behind. Go watch the video. Harvick is a punk just like Ty said. Always has been and always will be.

Harvick is bad for himself. It’s good for NASCAR to have these entertaining types of altercations and characters, but Harvick doesn’t do himself any favors with asinine comments like this.

I can’t wait to see what will happen to Stewart-Haas racing next year. Tony Stewart, Kurt Busch, Kevin Harvick, and…Danica Patrick. Now what could possibly go wrong?
