Hamilton Wins Wild Brazilian Grand Prix After Verstappen/Ocon Clash

Max Verstappen was well on his way to a surprise Brazilian Grand Prix victory. Red Bull Racing hadn’t led in the country since 2013 and through most of the weekend, they looked to be playing third fiddle behind Mercedes and Ferrari. But, there Verstappen was with the lead and cruising to what should have been a second straight win.

Instead, Esteban Ocon had other thoughts.

Ocon, tried to unlap himself on Lap 44 and the two made contact. It sent both spinning off course which allowed pole sitter Lewis Hamilton to skate by and never look back en route to his 72nd career Formula One victory and 10th of the season.

Hamilton, also clinched the constructor title for Mercedes, their fifth straight.

He was shocked to be in position to win but he will take it. The England native has won five of the last seven races and has nine top two finishes over the last 11 races overall in his No. 44 Mercedes.

Verstappen, finished runner-up in his No. 33 Red Bull Racing Renault for his third straight top two finish and eighth straight top five effort. Kimi Raikkonen held off a hard charging Daniel Ricciardo for third to give the podium three different teams.

Raikkonen, has seven straight top five finishes and three consecutive podiums. Over his last 13 starts, he has finished second or third in eight of them.

Ricciardo, finished fourth in his No. 3 Renault for his second top five finish over the last eight races.

Valtteri Bottas rounded out the top five with his third straight fifth place finish.
