After Spring Runner-Up Finish, Kurt Busch Ready For Talladega Win

While Kurt Busch sits in a pretty good position in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series playoff standings right now, he knows that Sunday’s (2 p.m. ET/NBC/MRN/SiriusXM NASCAR Radio) could ruin that. Busch, was nine laps away from at the very least a top two finish last Sunday in Dover, but instead finished fifth. It was his second straight fifth place finish on the season and 10th top 10 result over the last 12 races overall.

Now, it’s onto the high pressured Talladega Superspeedway, a spot where Busch could actually shine though.

Busch, finished runner-up in the spring race on the 2.66-mile Alabama superspeedway and has five top 10 finishes in his last six starts overall at Talladega. With Ford powering eight of the last 10 points paying victors on restrictor plate tracks, Busch’s No. 41 Ford could be in contention to win for the second time of the season on Sunday afternoon.

He’d love to do so too and join Chase Elliott as automatic berths into the Round of 8.

On the flipside, Busch also knows that Talladega could cost him too. In four of his last five points paying restrictor plate races, Busch finished 25th or worse.

So, which is it going to be for the Stewart-Haas Racing driver this weekend?

It’s going to shape his chances for the next round.
