Hamilton Extends Points Lead To 40 Points With Triumph In Singapore

Lewis Hamilton is well on his way to his fifth Formula One championship as the Mercedes driver earned his 69th career victory in Sunday’s Singapore Grand Prix. Hamilton, turned what he described as a “magic lap” in qualifying on Saturday en route to his seventh pole of the season. He used that to his advantage in racing to his third straight win of the year and fourth in the last five races.

In his last six starts on the year, Hamilton has four wins and two runner-ups which is enough to push his points lead to 40 with just six races to go in the 2018 season.

The race got started with a quick yellow when the Force India teammates collided sending Esteban Ocon into the wall. Sebastian Vettel got around Max Verstappen for second on the start of the race but he had nothing for Hamilton.

After the lone pit sequence of the day, Hamilton further pressed his lead while Verstappen moved past Vettel for second again. They’d remain that way the rest of the race.

Verstappen, brought his No. 33 Red Bull Racing Renault home runner-up for his seventh top five finish in his last nine starts on the year. It was also Red Bull’s fifth straight second place finish in the night race.

Vettel, had to settle for third in his No. 5 Ferrari for his ninth podium of the year.

Valtteri Bottas was fourth in his No. 77 Mercedes while Kimi Raikkonen rounded out the top five. Bottas, has just two podiums over his last eight starts.

The guys have a week off next week before heading to Russia.
