Three of the hottest drivers in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series right now are Chase Elliott, Kurt Busch and Erik Jones. In Sunday night’s Southern 500 at the Darlington Raceway, all three drivers came away with top 10 finishes on the “Too Tough To Tame” track. This trio has been on top of their games over the last few months and are fighting hard to be among the four drivers that will advance to the Homestead-Miami Speedway in November.
Despite an early uncontrolled tire penalty, Jones rebounded to an eighth place finish in his No. 20 Toyota. It was his fourth top six finish over his last five races on the season and eighth top seven result in the 10 races since Sonoma on June 24. The second year driver finished fifth in this very race last year.
Busch, brought his No. 41 Ford home sixth for his third top 10 finish over his last four Southern 500 starts. On the season, it was his seventh consecutive top 10 finish and ninth in the last 11 races overall.
Elliott, came home fifth in his No. 9 Chevrolet for his sixth straight top 10 finish on the year and ninth in the last 12 races.
As you can see, with Martin Truex Jr. sliding, there’s reason to believe that at least two of these drivers could be racing for the championship in 11 races.
You want to take as much momentum as you can with you to the playoffs and these three have all of it so far.
