CONCORD, NC – No matter what happens in either the NASCAR XFINITY Series or the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series races this weekend, Daniel Hemric will be on Cloud 9. This weekend’s racing action at the Charlotte Motor Speedway is just miles away from his hometown of Kannapolis.
So, to be announced on Friday that he will get to not only live out his dream of being a Cup driver in 2019, but do so for his childhood heroes (Dale Earnhardt) team of Richard Childress Racing and have that announcement at his hometrack, it was priceless.
To add to that though, Hemric looks like he could very well win both races and sweep the weekend too.
Hemric, qualified his Cup car 11th for Sunday’s Bank of America ROVAL 400 (2 p.m. ET/NBC/PRN/SiriusXM NASCAR Radio). He was fourth fastest in practice on Friday too.
In XFINITY Series action, Hemric was second, fourth, second and first respectively in the four combined practice sessions the last two days. His No. 21 Chevrolet looks even stronger than his No. 8 Chevrolet in the Cup Series.
Hemric, finished third in two of the three road course races in 2018 too and is looking like the favorite for Saturday’s Drive for the Cure 200 (3 p.m. ET/NBCSN/PRN/SiriusXM NASCAR Radio).
