Allgaier Looking To Win Regular Season Championship, Can Bell Get Back On Track?

The 2018 NASCAR XFINITY Series’ regular season is coming to an end on Saturday. Currently, nine of the 12 playoff spots have been clinched as we have seven drivers vying for the final three spots in this weekend’s DC Solar 300 (5 p.m. ET/NBCSN/PRN/SiriusXM NASCAR Radio). But, another battle to watch is at the top of the standings.

Justin Allgaier leads Cole Custer by 49 points in the overall points standings. Christopher Bell (-52) and Daniel Hemric (-55) are technically still mathematically alive to win the regular season title, but it’s really Allgaier’s to lose at this point. Whomever is the points leader when the checkered flag drops on Saturday at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway will get 15 additional playoff points to his disposal.

Allgaier, already has 24 of them, tied with Bell for most in the series. But, if he can grab 15 more, he’d have 39 playoff points to carry with him throughout the entire seven race playoffs. The next best is Tyler Reddick with six. He’d have around a 33 point lead over third place before we even begin.

Plus, Allgaier doesn’t want to lose any of his momentum. He’s had 13 straight top 10 finishes heading into the weekend including two wins over the last three weeks and three in the last five.

He’s the championship favorite that’s for sure.

Christopher Bell

Can he get going again? Bell, is backing his way into the playoffs. Over the last six races, he has just one top five finish, a second place run at Bristol. His last three finishes are 23rd, 34th and ninth respectively. He’s gone from the overall points lead to 52 points out in third. That’s a big drop.

He’s been strong on 1.5-mile tracks this season and should be strong again. He has five top three finishes in six tries on them this season.
