Norman Earns 1st Career Indy Lights Victory In Thrilling Race At Gateway

MADISON, Ill – What another thrilling race we saw in Indy Lights competition at Gateway. Ryan Norman had an intense battle with his Andretti Autosport teammate Colton Herta over the final 20 laps and got by him with five to go and never looked back in his No. 48 Mazda for his first career win in the series.

Norman, tried effortlessly to set Herta up for the pass and on Lap 69, he finally got back. The Ohio native held a furious charge by Herta off in the end and won by 0.2055-seconds for his seventh straight top five finish on the season. 

Herta, lost crucial points by losing the lead and would come home runner-up in his No. 98 Mazda. It was his third straight second place finish as he now trails Patricio O’Ward by 25 points heading into the final weekend of the season at Portland.

The second generation driver now has 10 first or second place finishes on the year.

O’Ward finished third in his No. 27 Mazda to give Andretti a clean 1-2-3 sweep of the podium. It was O’Ward’s sixth straight podium as we head to the doubleheader finale next week.

Santi Urrutia brought his No. 5 Mazda home fourth for his second straight fourth place run while his teammate Aaron Telitz rounded out the top five in his No. 9 Mazda.
