Allgaier Passes Cindric Late To Win 3rd Race Of The Season At Mid-Ohio

Rookie Austin Cindric looked well on his way to earning his first career NASCAR XFINITY Series victory on Saturday at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. The Team Penske driver started on the pole and dominated the Rock n Roll Tequila 170 for most of the day. Unfortunately for Cindric, two late cautions negated his lead which allowed Justin Allgaier on fresher tires to capitalize the most.

On the final restart with six laps-to-go, Allgaier went from fifth to second rather quickly. Then, a few laps later, he got by Cindric for the top spot and never looked back en route to his third win of the season and eighth of his XFINITY Series career.

Allgaier, passed Cindric on Lap 71 and took his No. 7 Chevrolet to victory lane on the Ohio road course. It was his third straight top three finish of the season and ninth straight top 10. He becomes the sixth different race winner at Mid-Ohio in as many years.

Cindric, had to settle for second in his No. 22 Ford for his best finish of the year. It was his third top five of the season as he led a race-high 59 of the 75 Laps run on Saturday.

Daniel Hemric finished third in his No. 21 Chevrolet for his second straight Mid-Ohio top five finish but his first top five run on the year since his runner-up at Kentucky last month. His Richard Childress Racing teammate Matt Tifft brought his No. 2 Chevrolet home fourth while Ryan Truex earned a season best fifth place run in his No. 11 Chevrolet.

The series gets back to action next weekend at the Bristol Motor Speedway on Aug. 17 (7:30 p.m. ET/NBCSN/PRN/SiriusXM NASCAR Radio).
