VeeKay Takes Over Pro Mazda Points Lead With Victory at Mid-Ohio

LEXINGTON, OH – Two weekends ago, Rinus VeeKay scored two big wins on the streets of Toronto. That put him back into the thick of things for this year’s Pro Mazda Series championship. On Saturday, the Juncos Racing driver took over the points lead.

VeeKay, led all 25 laps en route to a dominating victory at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. It was his third straight win and fifth of the 2018 season. After starting the year off with three podiums in the first five races, he went the next four events with getting back on either of the three steps. 

Now, not only is he back, he’s been on the top step each time.

VeeKay, cruised in his No. 2 Mazda for a championship type performance on the 2.258-mile road course. With Parker Thompson’s fifth place run, he took a seven point deficit and put it into a 15 point advantage.

David Maulkas finished second in his No. 79 Mazda for his first podium since his doubleheader sweep in Road America. Robert Megennis was third in his No. 9 Mazda for his third – third place run in the last six races.

Carlos Cunha rounded out the top five in fourth.
