LEXINGTON, OH – Pato O’Ward is on a roll and that continued in Saturday’s Indy Lights race at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. The Andretti Autosport driver started on the pole and led flag to flag en route to his sixth win of the season and fourth in the last five races.
That recent streak has not only propelled him to the points lead, but he’s got a commanding lead heading into race No. 2 of the doubleheader weekend on Sunday. O’Ward, leads his Andretti Autosport teammate of Colton Herta by 25 points.
O’Ward has six top two finishes in his No. 27 Mazda over his last seven starts on the season.
Herta, closed the gap but could only muster a runner-up in his No. 98 Mazda. It was his fourth second place run of the season but first after a rough weekend two weeks ago in Toronto. From Barber through Iowa, Herta had eight straight podium finishes. Among those were four straight wins. Unfortunately for him, O’Ward was also running well and when Herta faltered in Toronto, O’Ward was there to capitalize.
Dalton Kellett finished third on Saturday in his No. 28 Mazda to give Andretti a clean 1-2-3 sweep of the podium. It was Kellett’s fifth podium of his career.
Victor Franzoni was fourth in his No. 23 Mazda while Ryan Norman rounded out the top five in his No. 48 Mazda. Franzoni, was the only non Andretti driver in the top five.
The Belardi cars were sixth and seventh respectively.
