LEXINGTON, OH – Andretti Autosport may have never won a Verizon IndyCar Series race at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course before, but this weekend, they didn’t lose an Indy Lights race.
On both Saturday and again on Sunday, Pato O’Ward reached victory lane in both races on the 2.258-mile road course. They were his sixth and seventh wins of the season respectively. He now extends his points lead to 32 points with just three races to go in the season.
In fact, if you go back to Nico Jamin’s victory in the second race of the doubleheader weekend last year, the Andretti Autosport No. 27 Mazda has won the last three races at Mid-Ohio.
To even further their claim to fame at Mid-Ohio, not only did they lead every lap, but they’re the only ones to take home any podium trophies as well.
Colton Herta finished runner-up to O’Ward in both races this weekend while Dalton Kellett was third on Saturday and Ryan Norman finishing on the final step of the podium on Sunday. Norman, started in last (seventh) but charged up to his sixth straight top five finish on the season.
For the season, Andretti drivers have won 11 of the 12 races as O’Ward and Herta are the clear front runners for this year’s championship.
