Kyle Busch Overcomes Early Pit Road Speeding Penalty, Dominates XFINITY Series Race In Pocono

It only took two laps before Kyle Busch moved his way into the lead in Saturday afternoon’s Pocono Green 250. He’d easily win the first stage of the race and look like he’d have the car to beat at the Pocono Raceway this weekend. But, on his first pit stop after the opening stage break, his No. 18 Toyota was hit with a speeding penalty.

That forced him to the back.

It then didn’t take much time for Busch to work his way back through the field. On Lap 61, Busch found his way back to the front of the pack. He’d never look back in leading the final 40 laps en route to his first win in the XFINITY Series at the 2.5-mile Tricky Triangle.

Busch, led a race-high 64 out of the 100 laps overall and overcame that early penalty to cruise to his 92nd win in the series. It also ended a 22 race drought, as the last time he won in XFINITY Series competition was Bristol last August. Granted, he only made four starts in that time frame.

Coincidentally enough, this car went to victory lane at Bristol this past August with Ryan Preece. But, Busch has now won at ever XFINITY Series track that he’s competed on and that comes a week after he won at Charlotte to win at ever Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series track too.

Chase Elliott brought his No. 23 Chevrolet home runner-up to Busch on Saturday. It was his first top 10 finish in three starts this season, the last two races coming in a fill in role with GMS Racing.

Daniel Hemric finished third for the fourth time in the last seven races in his No. 21 Chevrolet. Hemric, also finished third in races at Texas, Bristol and Dover as well.

Austin Cindric brought his No. 12 Ford home fourth for his best career finish in the series while pole sitter Cole Custer would finish fifth in his No. 00 Ford. Custer, now has nine top 10 finishes in his last 10 starts on the season.

Elliott Sadler’s top 10 streak stays alive as he came home sixth in his No. 1 Chevrolet. Sadler, has a top 10 in all 12 races this season, 10 of which being inside the top six.

The series will race at Michigan next weekend and do so with the same restrictor plate package.
