Is Clint Bowyer A Title Contender? Why I Say He Is

At this point last year, Clint Bowyer had just two top five finishes and five top 10’s. As we head into the off weekend this year, Bowyer has already reached victory lane twice to go along with eight top 10 finishes in his No. 14 Ford. 12 of his 15 starts this season have produced a top 15 result. He had 11 in 2018. So, as the top 15’s are nearly identical, he’s showing that he can run closer to the front.

So, does that make him a championship contender?

I say watch out.

Bowyer, currently sits fifth in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series standings. He’s 154 points behind Kyle Busch for the overall lead. But, he has Ford and Stewart-Haas Racing power. SHR has won nearly half of the races in 2018 and Ford over half.

So, the potential is there to win more races in the future and he can do so too. Once you get into the playoffs, all bets are off and we know Bowyer will definitely be taking part in the postseason.

Plus, you have to look at where his confidence level is right now. He went 190 races without reaching victory lane and he’s now won two of the last eight races. On top of all of that, Bowyer led 11 laps in 2015, three in 2016 and 22 in 2017. This season, he’s already led 308 laps. Throw in 2014’s 109 laps led and Bowyer has led more laps in 15 races this season compared to the last four years combined.

He’s an emotional driver. Give him this equipment and this shot and he’s going to do something with it.
