BELLE ISLE, MI – It wasn’t a weekend sweep for Scott Dixon or even Chip Ganassi Racing, but the team leaves Belle Isle with their heads held really high. Dixon, led the first laps for the organization on Saturday when he led a race high 39 of 70 laps en route to his 42nd career Verizon IndyCar Series season. On Sunday, he didn’t win but he did finish fourth in his No. 9 Honda for his seventh top six finish in eight races to start the 2018 season.
He now leaves Belle Isle second in the points standings, just five points out.
What about Ed Jones? After a disastrous Month of May at Indy where he started 15th and finished 22nd in the INDYCAR Grand Prix and started 29th and finished 31st in the Indianapolis 500, Jones came away with two top six finishes in two days in Detroit.
Jones, started 11th and finished sixth on Saturday then earned a fourth place start for Sunday’s race and brought his No. 10 Honda home third. It was his third career podium, two of which coming this season. Jones, is showing that he can be at his best on road/street courses as he finished eighth in the season opener at St. Pete, third in Long Beach and now sixth and third respectively on the streets of Belle Isle.
It was a fantastic weekend for the entire organization as both drivers head to Texas with a ton of momentum. They’re now hoping to carry it through the rest of the season.
