Baron Wins Crash Filled USF200 Race No. 1 At Indy

INDIANAPOLIS – The USF2000 Series had a long break between the first race weekend and the second. They kicked things off on the streets of St. Pete back in Mid March. But, they haven’t had a race since.

Until Friday.

26 drivers took to the 2.439-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course for the first of two races this weekend. If the second one on Saturday is like the opening race on Friday, buckle up.

The 15 lap race saw five of them run under caution, as there were over 14-minutes of yellow flag action in the race itself. Despite that, the race didn’t really disappoint.

Alex Baron picked up where he left off in St. Pete with a victory on Friday at IMS. Baron, led all 25 laps in the second of two races in St. Pete and backed that up with leading nine of the 15 on Friday en route to his third career victory in the series.

Baron, passed pole sitter Kyle Kirkwood on Lap 6 and had to hold him off on two restarts for the victory in his No. 19 Mazda. Kirkwood, would lead six laps from the pole and bring his No. 8 Mazda home runner-up.

Jose Sierra would finish third in his No. 12 Mazda while Jamie Caroline and Kory Enders would round out the top five in finishing fourth and fifth respectively.

The series qualified earlier in the day for the second race tomorrow and saw Kirkwood win the pole for that race to. Lucas Kohl who crashed out on Lap 2 will start alongside while Baron will roll off third.
