The two drivers to beat for Saturday night’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at the Kansas Speedway has to be Martin Truex Jr. and Kyle Busch. The duo have combined to win four races already in 2018, with Busch taking three checkered flags first and Truex one. But, they could add to that total under the lights this weekend, because both have been so dominant at the 1.5-mile track lately.
Truex, swept both races in 2017 after leading 104 laps last May and 91 more in the fall. He has four straight top four starts at Kansas in his No. 78 Toyota and five in the last six tries. Plus, the spring race is where he’s done his most damage at Kansas. He led 95 laps in 2015, 172 in 2016 and those 104 last year.
He likely will be strong again this weekend.
So will Busch. Kansas didn’t always start off as a great track for the Joe Gibbs Racing driver. But, lately it has. He has six straight top 10 finishes at Kansas, including five of which inside the top five. He won this race in 2016 and finished fifth in three of the four races around it.
His No. 18 Toyota will be strong again too.
