3 SHR Cars Finish In The Top 5 at Dover, Led By Harvick’s Triumph

Stewart-Haas Racing is proving more and more that they’re the best overall team in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series in 2018. When it looked like Kyle Busch was going to be the overall favorite for the championship itself, SHR driver Kevin Harvick said otherwise this weekend at the Dover International Speedway.

Harvick, passed his SHR teammate Clint Bowyer on Lap 338 and never looked back en route to the victory in Sunday’s AAA 400 at the Monster Mile. It was Harvick’s fourth win of the 2018 season and the second time that not only did he take his No. 4 Ford to victory lane, but he swept all three stages as well.

He led 201 out of the 400 laps on the concrete race track and upped his season total to 741 circuits led. He now has 19 playoff points accumulated already and could have had seven more added to that if not for an encumbered finish at Vegas.

Bowyer, finished second in his No. 14 Ford for his fifth top 10 finish over the last six races. He’d lead 40 laps of his own on Sunday.

It wasn’t just those two up front this weekend too. Kurt Busch gave SHR three cars in the top five finishing positions when he came home fifth in his No. 41 Ford. Aric Almirola finished 11th in his No. 10 Ford to give SHR all four cars in the top 11.

That’s pure domination.

Daniel Suarez was next best in class bringing his No. 19 Toyota home third for his best career Cup Series finish. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver is on a roll lately as he now has four straight top 11 finishes on the season.

Martin Truex Jr. overcame a tire problem on Lap 99 and came back from being a lap down and finished fourth in his No. 78 Toyota. Truex, took the waive around on the first stage break to get his lap back, then was aided by a Derrike Cope crash on Lap 152 to get back on the same strategy as the leaders. He’d end a four race streak that saw him finishing outside the top 10 in each including three finishes of 26th or worse. Prior to that though, he had five straight top five finishes.

The race was red flagged for 41-minutes when rain fell on the Dover area on Lap 385. Bowyer, was scored as the leader then, but the action would resume.

The series now heads to Kansas next weekend for another primetime race.
