Vettel Outlasts Bottas In Thrilling Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix

While overtaking is still a challenge in Formula One, Sunday’s Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix was nothing short of thrilling. From the start where both Red Bull Racing cars were taken out by Lap 2, to Kimi Raikkonen’s botched pit stop, leaving the trio of favorites with 18th, 19th and 20th place finishes, to the last lap battle between Sebastian Vettel and Valtteri Bottas, the race was a brilliant display of racing for Formula One.

Vettel, held off a hard charging Bottas for his 49th career F1 victory and second straight to start the 2018 season. Vettel, started on the pole in his No. 5 Ferrari and led the opening 18 laps before pitting for the only time of the race.

He’d get the lead back when he passed Lewis Hamilton for the lead on Lap 25 and never looked back en route to his third win in the last four F1 races dating back to last season. It was his also record setting fourth win in Bahrain, including second in-a-row in the desert too.

Bottas, came home second in his No. 77 Mercedes for his 24th career podium finish and 17th top five finish over his last 18 starts.

Hamilton would come home third in his No. 44 Mercedes. He scored points for the 27th consecutive race, tying Kimi Raikkonen for the most ever.

Rookie Pierre Gasly finished fourth in his No. 10 Honda while Kevin Magnussen brought his No. 20 Haas Ferrari home fifth.
