Red Bull Off To a Dreadful Start To The 2018 Season

Red Bull Racing has been among the “big three” Formula One teams over the last decade. They entered the 2018 F1 season with high hopes that they could have made enough improvements in the offseason to close the gap with the Mercedes duo. Unfortunately, they’re not even the third or even fourth best team in the series this season.

Ferrari and Mercedes are leaps and bounds ahead of everyone else, but Haas, Renault and McLaren have closed the gap. Daniel Ricciardo is down in seventh in the standings right now, 38 points back. Max Verstappen is 10th, 42 points out.

Last weekend in Bahrain, Verstappen crashed in qualifying and suffered early damage in the race with contact with Lewis Hamilton. He finished 19th. Ricciardo, had an electrical problem just prior to that and finished 20th.

That comes after the duo struggled in Australia too.

Now, they have their sights set on a rebound this weekend in China. Last year, they finished inside the top five. Verstappen was third, Ricciardo fourth. The year prior, Ricciardo was fourth too. In fact, he’s finished fourth in three of the last four years.

Other than Verstappen’s podium last year, they’ve never came home on the podium otherwise.
