Parker Thompson Dominates Pro Mazda Race No. 1 In Barber

LEEDS, Ala – Its been a flawless weekend thus far for Parker Thompson. The rookie was fastest in the lone practice session of the weekend on Friday at the Barber Motorsports Park. Then, in qualifying later on in the day, Thompson qualified his No. 90 Mazda on the pole for today’s race.

On Saturday morning, the 16 drivers hit the 2.3-mile Alabama track to qualify for Sunday’s race No. 2. Thompson once again was quickest.

Then, in the opening race of the weekend, he led flag-to-flag en route to his first career Pro Mazda Series victory. Thompson, pulled away from the drop of the green flag, only slowed by a one lap caution on the front stretch on Lap 2. Once we went back green following the one lap caution period, he was never challenged again.

Thompson, cruised to the win in leading all 25 laps on Saturday afternoon. He bested second place by 5.2269-seconds and third by over 18-seconds.

Harrison Scott was that second place finisher in his No. 10 Mazda. Fellow rookie David Malukas finished third in his No. 79 Mazda. That trio started 1-2-3 as well.

Andres Gutierrez finished fourth in his No. 81 Mazda while Rinus Veekay rounded out the top five in his No. 2 Mazda. VeeKay swept the St. Pete weekend and now has three straight top five finishes to start his Pro Mazda career off.

The series will race again tomorrow morning.
