LEEDS, Ala – What a weekend it was at the Barber Motorsports Park for Andretti Autosports Pato O’Ward. He started second on Saturday but quickly passed his teammate Colton Herta for the lead and never looked back in leading all 30 laps in race No. 1. On Sunday, O’Ward started on the pole and dominated the wet race in leading all 35 laps this morning too.
It was O’Ward’s third win in four races this season as he takes over the points lead heading to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in two weeks.
His No. 27 Mazda was by far the best car out there as he leaves with 65 laps led in as many circuits run on the 2.3-mile Alabama road course and showed he can win in not just dry conditions but wet conditions as well.
He bested Victor Franzoni by 5.8325-seconds on Sunday.
Franzoni, earned his best career Indy Lights Series finish with a runner-up. He started second too and finished fourth on Saturday.
Colton Herta brought his No. 98 Mazda home third for his third podium finish in four tries in 2018 and 10th of his career. He was 45+ seconds back.
Aaron Telitz finally completed a lap and finished fourth while Santi Urrutia rounded out the top five. They were the only pass on track on Sunday morning, as the race was moved up over an hour due to the threat of heavy rain.
