The 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season has started off an awful lot like the 2017 one for Joey Logano. At this point last year, Logano had six top six finishes through the first seven races of the year. So far in 2018, Logano has six top seven finishes through the first seven events. He’s now just hoping from basically the end of this month on, it will go a lot better than last year did.
But, in order to avoid that, first things first, go out and win on Sunday at Bristol.
Logano, has been very solid so far this year in his No. 22 Ford, he just hasn’t had the overall speed that it takes to win. Maybe that happens this weekend at the Bristol (Tenn) Motor Speedway.
It all starts with qualifying there.
Logano has 13 straight top 10 starting spots at Bristol and has started there in 16 of the last 17 races. That has translated well into successful finishes too. He has five top 10 finishes over his last seven Bristol starts, including two victories.
Now, he’s hoping he build off of last year’s fifth place run in the spring on the “worlds fastest half mile” and take his car to victory lane for a third time at Bristol. His other two wins came in the night race in August. He’s never won in the spring.
With Bristol, you don’t need overall speed to win. While having a fast car is night, handling and track position are the biggest keys. Logano, has the handling on his car and he will have track position, it’s just utilizing it.
On the high speed tracks, Logano has been good but didn’t have the speed to win. What happens with speed is taken out of it?
