Bell Holds Off Gragson For XFINITY Series Win In Richmond

The question wasn’t if, but when Christopher Bell would get back to victory lane in the NASCAR XFINITY Series. The defending NASCAR Camping World Truck Series champion would run his rookie season in the series in 2018. While he made select starts in 2017, one of which resulting in a win, we all knew that the Oklahoma native would land in victory lane again sometime in 2018.

Now, we know when and where.

Bell, held off a furious charge from his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Noah Gragson on Friday night en route to his second career XFINITY Series victory. He won Friday night’s Toyota Care 250 at the .75-mile Richmond Raceway.

Bell, led a race high 120 out of the 250 laps, including leading the final 78 for his fifth top four finish in his last seven starts in his No. 20 Toyota.

Gragson, would finish runner-up in his series debut. The Kyle Busch Motorsports driver in the Truck Series, was quick in both practice sessions on Friday morning. He backed that speed up with leading 10 laps in his first career XFINITY Series start and brought his No. 18 Toyota home second for a JGR 1-2 effort.

Elliott Sadler finished third in his No. 1 Chevrolet for his eighth top 10 in as many starts in 2018. Six of those eight top 10’s have resulted with a finish inside the top five. The Virginia native led 30 laps himself.

Matt Tifft earned a fourth place run in his No. 2 Chevrolet for his first top five finish of the year and fourth top 10 run in his last five starts on the season.

Austin Cindric earned his best career XFINITY Series result with a fifth place finish in his No. 22 Ford.

Pole sitter Cole Custer led 43 laps and finished sixth.

Daniel Hemric appeared to be among the ones to beat on Friday night, but he had a tire problem in the closing laps of the second stage. He’d finish 29th as a result.

The Dash 4 Cash continues next weekend at the Talladega Superspeedway.
