Harvick’s 3 Race Win Streak Ends With Lap 37 Crash

FONTANA, Calif – The only thing to keep Kevin Harvick out of victory lane on Sunday was going to be Kevin Harvick himself or a fluke incident. Well, that’s exactly what happened in the Auto Club 400 at the Auto Club Speedway in southern California.

Harvick, was involved in a bizarre accident on the backstretch on Lap 37, causing his No. 4 Ford to limp back to pit road with heavy damage. Harvick, came off Turn 2 running the high line while Kyle Larson would run below. Both of their cars would come together, sending Harvick’s bright blue Busch Beer Ford into the outside SAFER barrier on the straightaway.

Some say Larson came up on Harvick. Others say Harvick came down on Larson. Either way, his three race win streak comes to an end.

Harvick, would finish five laps down in 35th.

The Stewart-Haas Racing driver had been very dominant over the last three weeks. He led 125 laps in Atlanta then backed that up with leading 214 more laps and taking all three stages in Vegas. At Phoenix, his car was good in the end and went to victory lane for a third straight week.

In Fontana, he had the car to beat all weekend. He was fastest in two of the three practice sessions and even was quickest in both 10 lap average charts on Saturday. He broke the track record in qualifying on Friday as well.

But, he leaves with his worst finish of the season after a crazy incident.

As he heads back east, Harvick closes out the west coast swing with finishes of first, first and 35th.
