7 New IndyCar Teams Have Been Formed Over Last 2 Seasons

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla – One would think that when you see the two all-time winningest Verizon IndyCar Series teams downsize in the offseason, that the series may have some rough days ahead. Combined, Team Penske and Chip Ganassi Racing have shed three cars from their talented driver lineups. Instead, it’s been anything but doom and gloom. In fact, the series is heading back towards the path of motorsports’ top step.

Rahal Looking For Overnight Changes on His No. 15 Honda

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla – One team that I was surprised with on Friday’s Verizon IndyCar Series action was Rahal/Letterman/Lanigan Racing. I was in the mindset that both Graham Rahal and Takuma Sato would come out and pick up where they left off from the test in Phoenix last month. Instead, both struggled to get up to speed in both practice sessions on the streets of St. Pete. Sato, was 22nd and 10th respectively in his No. 30 Honda. Rahal, was 12th and 20th respectively.

Ganassi Teammates Ed Jones, Scott Dixon Confident Heading Into Qualifying on Saturday

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla – Chip Ganassi Racing has just one career Verizon IndyCar Series win on the streets of St. Pete. In fact, Scott Dixon wasn’t the one to bring home the win either. That went to Dario Franchitti. Yes, Dixon has never won on the 1.8-mile Florida street course before. But, that could change in Sunday’s Firestone Grand Prix of St. Pete (12:30 p.m. ET/ABC/INDYCAR Radio Network) though.

Chevrolet’s Much Faster So Far This Weekend in Phoenix

AVONDALE, AZ – It’s hardly a secret, but the entire Chevrolet camp has struggled out of the gates to start the 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season. While they did win the season opening Daytona 500 back in February, they’ve struggled overall for most of the first three races of the season. In fact, the top Chevy drivers in the standings is Kyle Larson and he’s in sixth. The entire fleet of bowtie drivers have led just 37 total laps this season. 17 of those came by Ryan Newman in…

AVONDALE, AZ – Before he joined Furniture Row Racing, Martin Truex Jr. never considered himself a very good qualifier. In fact, prior to the start of the 2016 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season, Truex had just seven career poles to his credit. But, just into his third season since, he’s already had nine in just 75 races. Truex, turned a lap of 136.945 mph in his No. 78 Toyota in the third and final round of qualifying at the ISM Raceway in Phoenix, as he will start of the pole…

Honda Teams Quick Out Of The Gates This Weekend in St. Pete, Penske’s Pole Streak Will Be Threatened

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla – Team Penske and Chevrolet have been the ones to beat recently on the streets of St. Pete. Will Power has won seven of the last eight poles for the Verizon IndyCar Series season opener for the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Pete (12:30 p.m. ET/ABC/INDYCAR Radio Network) and Penske has won three of the last four races on the 1.8-mile street circuit overall. But, with a new car coming out this season, the manufacturer as far as the car goes won’t affect the outcome. No longer is…

Each of the three series took to the 14-turn Florida street circuit on a…

Robert Wickens Quick Out Of The Gates Friday in St. Pete

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla – In a year where there’s a brand new car in the Verizon IndyCar Series, things could work in one of two ways. Either the veterans will rise to the top and adapt quicker, or the parity will be so huge that even young seeing rookies shine. With no laps on this car in race conditions coming into this weekend’s Firestone Grand Prix of St. Pete (12:30 p.m. ET/ABC/INDYCAR Radio Network), no one knows what to expect though. That led to a lot of uncertainty out of one…
