INDIANAPOLIS – Another new sponsor has come on board the Verizon IndyCar Series, as US Concrete will sponsor Marco Andretti and his No. 98 Honda with Andretti Autosport/Herta Autosport in six races for the 2018 season. The races that they will have their colors on the third generation drivers’ car will be at Long Beach, both races at Indy, Texas, Pocono and the season finale in Sonoma.
Andretti, shifts to the joint entry between Michael Andretti and Bryan Herta after being with Andretti Autosport exclusively for the last 12 seasons. Andretti, 30, has two career Verizon IndyCar Series victories to his credit and just made his 200th career series start in the 2017 season finale at Sonoma.
Herta, joined forces with Andretti in the winter of 2016, after sponsorship deals fell through between he and Gabby Chaves. The friends decided to merge and hire Alexander Rossi to drive their joint effort for that upcoming season. It immediately paid off, as Rossi won the prestigious 100th Running of the Indianapolis 500 as a rookie.
Last year, the team changed up some things, as Herta moved over to Andretti’s pit box. Rossi, remained in the No. 98 entry though and still thrived, winning another race and having a career year.
But, with Rossi being a free agent at years end, Andretti reupped his deal on their end and moved Rossi over to the No. 27 Honda while Andretti shifted over to the No. 98 entry. It made more sense that way since Herta technically owns that car and he was calling the shots with Marco already. Why not have Marco drive his car.
Now, they have funding, as NAPA shifted over with Rossi.
