DAYTONA BEACH, Fla – Sunday was all about qualifying for the front row for next Sunday’s 60th annual Daytona 500 (2:30 p.m. ET/FOX/MRN/SiriusXM NASCAR Radio). But, for those that didn’t make the front row and guarantee those two starting spots when the checkered flag on the two round qualifying format, the other 38 drivers saw their starting spot for Thursday night’s Can Am Duels (7 p.m. ET/FS1/MRN/SiriusXM NASCAR Radio).
The odd numbered qualifiers will race in the first duel, while the even numbered qualifiers will run in the second duel.
This year will be different as there’s only 40 drivers competing in Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series competition at Daytona this year. That means no one goes home on Thursday.
The favorites on Thursday night though have to be the eight drivers from the Hendrick Motorsports or the Joe Gibbs Racing organizations. They’ve combined to win the last nine Duels, dating back to the second duel in 2013.
On Thursday, HMS drivers will start 1-2-3 in the first duel, while JGR will do the same in the second race.
