Kyle Busch Earns Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 Pole

HAMPTON, GA – The main story from Friday at the Atlanta Motor Speedway was Martin Truex Jr. failed qualifying inspection. His No. 78 Toyota failed the new inspection system three times, as he will start last in 36th place as a result.

In qualifying itself, another Toyota found speed. 

Kyle Busch earned his 28th career Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series pole by turning a lap around the 1.54-mile Georgia track at a speed of 184.652 mph in his No. 18 Toyota. It was Busch’s first career pole in Atlanta.

Ryan Newman will roll off along side in his No. 31 Chevrolet as the Richard Childress Racing driver turned a lap of 184.419 mph. It was Newman’s 12th career front row start in Atlanta as he nearly won his record setting eight pole at the track.

Kevin Harvick who was quickest in the second round of qualifying will start third (184.388 mph) while Daniel Suarez (184.229 mph) and Brad Keselowski (183.856 mph) rounded out the top five.

Keselowski, was quickest in the first round.

Several notable drivers were eliminated in the first round, including Austin Dillon, Ryan Blaney and Chase Elliott. They will start 25th through 27th respectively.
