Cole Custer will make his Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series debut next weekend as he will pilot the No. 51 Ford with Rick Ware Racing. Custer, 20, will be sponsored by Haas Automation in next Sunday’s Pennzoil 400 (3:30 p.m. ET/FOX/PRN/SiriusXM NASCAR Radio).
“This is a dream come true to compete in the Cup Series,” Custer said via a team release. “I can’t thank Rick Ware Racing and Haas Automation enough for the opportunity to race at Las Vegas. It’s going to be a new experience for me, but I feel that we can have a productive day by completing all the laps and seeing the checkered flag.”
Justin Marks just drove that entry to a 12th place finish in the season opening Daytona 500, as the car is capable of a good run out of the current NASCAR XFINITY Series driver in Custer.
“I’ve been watching Cole a long time, and he’s a fine young man,” Ware said. “I’ve been friends with the Custer family for a while now, and they are truly are amazing people. Over the last couple years, Cole has grown into a stout racecar driver with a fine finesse for speed and rhythm.
“The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series is home of someone of the greatest racecar drivers in the world, and Cole definitely fits into that category. I think our expectations as a team are realistic and achievable. Getting Cole to the checkered flag is our top priority as a race team.”
Custer, will make his 40th career XFINITY Series start this weekend in Atlanta. He’s a rising star that won the season finale at Homestead in 2017 and also has 21 career top 10 finishes. He then made 42 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts prior to that, reaching victory lane twice with 24 more top 10’s.
He finished 11th in Vegas last year in XFINITY Series competition as well as third in the 2016 Truck Series race.
