Juncos Racing Filling 2018 INDYCAR Races Quickly, Who’s Racing And Where

INDIANAPOLIS – Previously, Juncos Racing had announced that they will move up to Verizon IndyCar Series competition for 2018. But, the new team to the series had only announced that they will contest in four races with Kyle Kaiser as the driver. Kaiser, drove for Juncos the past few years in Indy Lights competition and had just won the series championship for them in 2017. That led to the $1-million Mazda Road to Indy scholarship and a four race opportunity in INDYCAR as a result.

While the races weren’t known yet, it’s been widely speculated that Kaiser will race at Phoenix, Long Beach and both races at Indy. The goal was always to add more races and contest on a full season basis, but Friday’s move pretty much squashed those rumors.

On Friday morning, Juncos Racing announced that they have signed Rene Binder on a four race deal too as he will contest in the No. 32 Chevrolet beginning with the season opener at St. Pete in March. His four races were known though with him racing at St. Pete, Barber, Toronto and Mid-Ohio.

That brings us to believe that Kaiser will definitely race at Phoenix and Long Beach because of his strength at Phoenix and because Long Beach is just the week later and if they’re already on the west coast, why not contest on the second most prestigious race on the schedule behind the Indy 500?

That would then mean that Juncos Racing has the first half of the season planned out with competing at every race from St. Pete through Indy. Then, they would need to fill eight more race weekends in the second half with Binder racing in July at Toronto and Mid-Ohio.

At Indy last year, Juncos fielded a two car team for the ‘500 with Spencer Pigot and Sebastian Saavedra. It’s unlikely they will run two cars in 2018, but the goal is still to be a full-time entry. As far as one driver competing full-time for them in 2018, that appears to be unlikely. 2019 may be the best shot to start a goal towards the drivers championship.
