Due to none of the 12 playoff drivers winning a race throughout the NASCAR XFINITY Series playoffs so far, there’s four wildcard spots open that will advance to the Championship 4 at the Homestead-Miami Speedway next weekend. While four of the 12 have already been eliminated, four more will be sent out of the playoffs when the checkered flag flies at the Phoenix Raceway.
But, the three JR Motorsports drivers don’t appear to be the ones that have to worry much. While Elliott Sadler has yet to win a race in 2017, he leads the cutoff by 29 points. With scoring his 12th top five finish of the season at Texas and having seven straight top 10 finishes on the season to his credit, it looks like the Virginia native is well on his way to a battle for the championship in South Florida.
Rookie William Byron is right there with him. He’s won three times in 2017 and has six top 10 finishes over his last the last nine starts on the season. Byron, is 24 points to the good in the standings.
The third JRM driver is Justin Allgaier and he is 20 points up. Allgaier, won at Phoenix back in the spring and is definitely in a great spot of advancing himself.
But, it’s looking like it may be an all Chevrolet lockout on the Championship 4. Currently, Brennan Poole leads Matt Tifft by five points heading to Phoenix. Poole, has been driving very well lately and if he can stave off Tifft and Cole Custer, he’s likely moving on himself.
Daniel Hemric (-18) and Ryan Reed (-33) are likely too far out to points their way in as both have to win. Neither, have won a race outside of Daytona.
So, it looks like it’s going to be an all Chevy Championship 4, with three of them being JRM drivers.
