Johnny Sauter Clinches Homestead Spot With Texas Victory

Fort Worth, TX – A key pass prior to short pitting on his final fuel run, were the main culprits in which helped aided Johnny Sauter to a thrilling victory in Friday night’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at the Texas Motor Speedway. Sauter, passed Austin Cindric just prior to bringing his No. 21 Chevrolet down pit road with 30 laps left in the penultimate race of the second round of the Truck Series playoffs, as that proved to be the pass for the win.

By short pitting, he avoided any real threat for the win from there on out, as Grant Enfinger and John Hunter Nemechek were short on fuel and each had to pit in the closing laps. Sauter, took over the lead for the final time on Lap 135 and never looked back en route to his third win of the season, second on a 1.5-mile track.

The win was also Sauter’s 16th of his Truck Series career as he will advance to the final round at the Homestead-Miami Speedway with a chance to defend his title as a result of Friday night’s trip to victory lane.

Sauter, defeated second place Cindric by 0.170-seconds.

Cindric, scored 12 stage points and brought his No. 19 Ford home runner-up for his 12th top 10 finish over the last 13 races. He’s now five points to the good heading to the final race of the round at Phoenix next Friday night.

Christopher Bell won the first stage in his No. 4 Toyota and brought his Kyle Busch Motorsports entry home third. It was his fifth top three finish in the last six races and 14th top five finish of the season. On top of that, Bell has had 19 top 10 finishes in 21 races this season and holds a 55 point lead on the cutoff spot.

Chase Briscoe and pole sitter Justin Haley rounded out the top five.

Matt Crafton holds the third playoff spot and is 24 points up. Ben Rhodes and Nemechek are five and 39 points out after finishing 18th and 19th respectively.

Rhodes, didn’t get a tire secured properly on his last pit stop and had to come back down pit road. Nemechek, ran out of fuel trying to stretch it to the end and hoping for a late race caution.
