The 2017 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season has been a vast improvement for the entire Roush/Fenway Racing camp. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. made the playoffs for the first time of his career as he won the spring race at the Talladega Superspeedway as well as the July race at the Daytona International Speedway. Stenhouse, even advanced past the first round of the playoffs too as he made it to the Round of 12.
But, despite Stenhouse’s eight top 10 finishes and Trevor Bayne’s six, neither of those occurred in the same race, until Sunday.
After a wild and crazy ending to Sunday’s First Data 500 at the Martinsville Speedway, both RFR drivers brought their respective cars home inside of the top 10.
Bayne, came home sixth in his No. 6 Ford for his second top six finish over the last three races. The Tennessee native finished third at Talladega two weeks ago.
Stenhouse, brought his No. 17 Ford home 10th in Sunday’s race, escaping the last lap melee on the front stretch. It was his first top 10 finish since his win at Daytona.
Now, the team is hoping to carry this end of the season momentum through Homestead and come out with a good opportunity to get both drivers in the playoffs for 2018.
