Brownsburg, Ind – What a weekend it was for Steve Torrence. After a storied career was nearly cut short from a rare disease, he bounced back and started to regain form before leaving an accomplished team to start his own.
This season, he’s seeing it all come back around in full circle. Now, he can hang is hat on a dream weekend in the biggest event of the season.
Torrence, won the Traxxas Top Fuel Nitro Shootout on Saturday night. Then, he marched through the ladder in “Big Go” all the way to a final round matchup with Kebin Kinsley.
In that round, Torrence easily defeated Kinsley, en route to his seventh victory of the season and 15th of his career.
Torrence, was the No. 3 qualifier and knocked out Ashley Sanford and Antron Brown in the first two rounds. Then, in the semifinals, he defeated second qualifier Leah Pritchett.
Kinsley, had a storybook ladder himself with upsetting top qualifier Clay Millican, then ninth seeded Shawn Langdon and fourth seeded and 10 time US Nationals champ Tony Schumacher in the semifinals on his road to the finals against Torrence.
But, the stage was what Torrence has always wanted and there he was with his “Wally” in the 64th annual event.
It was a dream weekend for him too.
