Brownsburg, Ind – Two of the most recent drivers with the most success in the Traxxas Funny Car Nitro Shootout made it to the final round to face off against one another on Sunday afternoon in the 2017 edition of the annual all-star event. Jack Beckman vs. Robert Hight.
Beckman, beat both Don Schumacher Racing teammates Tommy Johnson Jr. and Ron Capps in the first two rounds to make it to the finals on his part of the bracket.
Hight, knocked out J.R. Todd and his boss John Force en route to his final round run.
In the finals though, Beckman got the best of Hight for the second time in three years en route to his third career Funny Car Shootout victory at Lucas Oil Raceway.
All three of Beckman’s victories have come in the last five years (2013, 2015, 2017) coincidentally enough in odd numbers years too. Should we pencil him into the 2019 finals win?
For Hight, it was his fourth straight final round defeat in the shootout, as he lost to Force in 2014, Beckman in 2015 and Courtney Force last year.
Beckman’s final time was 3.952 compared to Hights’ 4.360.
Steve Torrence won the Top Fuel Nitro Shootout on Saturday.
