Both are former F1 drivers that made it through the ranks in Europe only to get spurred in F1 for drivers with more funding. That sent them to the United States in search of IndyCar rides. Not only have they excelled over here, they’ve done extremely well in racing’s biggest event, the Indianapolis 500.
Rossi, won the 100th Running as a rookie in 2016 and qualified on the front row for this year’s classic. Chilton, led a race-high 50 laps this past May and was in the hunt to win in the end.
Having both formerly raced in Formula One with Manor/Marussia and now riding high together in IndyCar, Alexander Rossi and Max Chilton are well placed to compare motorsport’s two elite series. Mobil 1 The Grid spoke to the pair to find out about how the cars and the competition differs Stateside, and why concentration is key when it comes racing wheel-to-wheel on ovals.
