This morning, it looked like JR Hildebrand would be facing a tough hill to climb at the Iowa Speedway. Hildebrand, crashed his No. 21 Chevrolet in Turn 2 making it look bleak whether he would even be able to qualify or not at the Iowa Speedway.
Good thing he did though.
Hildebrand, qualified his Ed Carpenter Racing entry second with a two-lap average of 183.811 mph. That’s the best career start for him. With a fast car, one that one here a year ago, Hildebrand has a shot at winning Sunday’s Iowa Corn 300 (5 p.m. ET/NBCSN/INDYCAR Radio Network).
ECR had a great short oval program at Phoenix, with Hildebrand starting third and finishing there. He was the only bullet for the Team Penske foursome that weekend. Plus, this very car he’s driving, led 283 of the 300 laps with Josef Newgarden last year. On top of that, Hildebrand has made two Iowa starts, and in his first one, he finished fourth.
So, despite a crash in practice and starting 18th the last four straight races, watch out for Hildebrand tomorrow at the 7/8-mile bullring.
