Daytona Beach, Fla – The last few years, Clint Bowyer was about as frustrated as ever. Prior to joining Stewart-Haas Racing in the offseason, Bowyer had just two total top five finishes over his last 72 starts.
Now, just 17 races into the 2017 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season, he has three overall. In fact, his runner-up in Saturday night’s Coke Zero 400 at the Daytona International Speedway was Bowyer’s second straight runner-up finish, as he came home second last Sunday at Sonoma.
It was also his seventh top 10 of the season.
With all that being said, the Kansas native is happy, yet frustrated to be so close, yet so far away. He knows that a win is coming soon in his No. 14 Ford, and that he’s finally contending on a weekly basis again. But, being this close and not winning is a tough pill to swallow.
Right now, Bowyer is 15th in the playoff grid, 27 points ahead of 17th. But, he wants a win and is hoping all these close calls will be able to eventually lead to a trip back to victory lane.
