So far, the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series weekend at the Pocono Raceway has belonged to Kyle Busch. He won the pole for Sunday’s Axalta presents the Pocono 400 (3 p.m. ET/FS1/MRN) on Friday afternoon, and that came after being second quickest in the lone practice session of the day earlier on at the 2.5-mile Pennsylvania track.
On Saturday, the Cup drivers had one more practice session, this one the final tuneup before tomorrow’s race. In that one, Busch was once again on top of the speed charts.
The Joe Gibbs Racing driver turned a lap of 175.421 mph in his No. 18 Toyota for a near perfect two-for-three on the speed charts this weekend. Now, all he needs to do is win his first race of the season on Sunday and it would be a picture perfect weekend at the “Tricky Triangle.”
But, he did scrape the wall exiting Turn 3 in the closing minutes of Saturday’s session, luckily though, there wasn’t any damage done to his car.
Brad Keselowski was second fastest in his No. 2 Ford, turning a lap of 175.285 mph. Kyle Larson, who spun just about 15 minutes into final practice in Turn 2 was third quickest with a speed of 175.210 mph, while Chase Elliott (175.077 mph) and Kevin Harvick (175.050 mph) rounded out the top five being fourth and fifth respectively.
