Kurt Busch is the defending race winner of the June Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series event at the Pocono Raceway. With that being said, can this race be the one that gets him another strong result this weekend?
Busch, has suffered from the Daytona 500 victory hangover, as he hasn’t had a top five finish since his triumph in February. That’s 12 straight races without contending. In fact, in half of those 12 races, Busch has finished 24th or worse, including a crash last weekend in Dover where he finished a disappointing 37th.
But, Pocono could be just what the doctor ordered for the Stewart-Haas Racing driver, as he enters this weekend with three top 10 results over his last five races on the season. Also, since Busch has joined SHR, he has three top fives and four top 10’s in six Pocono starts.
Furthermore, if you go back to 2011, Busch has six top fives on the “Tricky Triangle.” Even better, since 2005, he has nine top three’s on the 2.5-mile Pennsylvania track. He’s also a very good qualifier there too, with 12 starts at Pocono coming from the first three rows since 2009. That’s a span of 15 races.
So, if there’s ever a time for the Daytona hangover to end, this is the race weekend to do so at for the Las Vegas native. I expect Busch to qualify well and run well this weekend, and even challenge for a win too.
