Last weekend, Team Penske had about as perfect of a race weekend as they could across all forms of motorsports. In the Verizon IndyCar Series race at the Phoenix International Raceway, they saw all four cars combine to lead all 250 laps of that race, as well as sweeping the top two finishing positions. They placed three of their four cars in the top four on Saturday night too.
Then, one day later, Penske’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series drivers combined to lead 135 of the 400 laps at the Richmond International Raceway and went 1-2 in that race as well.
Now, IndyCar is off this weekend, but the Cup drivers head to the high banks of the Talladega Superspeedway. Again, I look for more Penske domination.
Luckily, both drivers have already won this year, so even if they’re caught up in carnage, it won’t affect them too much. But, I suspect both will be up front and ahead of any crashes anyways.
Overall, Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano have combined to win the last three straight Cup races on the 2.66-mile superspeedway to go along with four wins in the last five tries there.
Keselowski, has four career Talladega victories, three of which came in this Spring race. He has three top fives in his last four Dega starts, two of which were wins.
Logano, has two career Talladega wins himself, each coming in the last two years.
Now, they head to keep the dominance going.
Logano, has a top six finish in all but one race this season, while Keselowski has six top six finishes in eight races in 2017. With that combined with a strong restrictor plate program, the Penske duo may be tough to stop on Sunday.
