INDIANAPOLIS – Last year, Simon Pagenaud won his first Verizon IndyCar Series championship. It was a dominant season for the Team Penske driver, as he showed us all who we all thought he’d be in North America’s premiere open wheel series. This week, Mobil 1 The Grid profiled Pagenaud and his rise through the ranks. In this chronicle, Pagenaud gave them a shocking hero that he had growing up.
Being from France, you would think that Pagenaud’s racing hero would have been Alain Prost. The French F1 driver was at his peak while Pagenaud was growing up. Instead, Pagenaud found inspiration from Prost’s rival, Ayrton Senna.
