INDIANAPOLIS – The annual Hoosier Hundred will take place at the Indiana State Fairgrounds on Thursday night, as it will be another classic USAC Silver Crown Race. The biggest storyline though will be, can anyone stop Kody Swanson.
Swanson, 29, has won the last three straight years and is looking for a fourth straight win in the 63rd running of the event. The only time this feat has happened was when Al Unser won four straight from 1970-1973.
Swanson, can join him on that rare honor Thursday night.
In all three of his wins here, Swanson passed the leader around the same lap. In 2014, he got by Bobby East on Lap 78. In 2015, he got by AJ Fike on Lap 68. Then, last year, he passed Shane Cottle on Lap 67. He’d lead for the duration in all three races.
But, can anyone stop him from making that pass this year?
Chris Windom is the best bet if so.
Windom, has won four straight Silver Crown races on dirt, including the season opener this year at Terre Haute. He was in the top five in literally all of the Silver Crown races in 2016, a feat that helped him win last year’s championship. He’s finished fifth at the “Indy Mile” the last two years.
With such a prestigious entry-list this year, the largest in 12 seasons, it should be a very intense battle for the win on Thursday.
Windom vs. Swanson. It will be a classic.
